In short: Every calculator starts with the governing formula from a primary source, is built with precise JavaScript, is tested against known worked examples, and is updated when the underlying standards change.
How every calculator is built
- Primary-source research. We begin with the recognized formula and its source, such as ASQ, ISO, SMRP, OSHA, the EPA, the U.S. Department of Energy, NIST, the GHG Protocol, or ISTA, depending on the topic.
- Precise implementation. We implement the math in vanilla JavaScript, using Big.js for decimal precision where currency, costing, or compounding is involved, so results do not drift from floating-point error.
- Testing against known outputs. Before a tool ships, we test it against hand-worked examples with realistic plant-floor units and confirm the output matches to the stated precision.
- Plain-language explanation. Each tool is paired with a guide that states the formula, defines the variables and units, and walks through worked examples.
- Updates. When a standard, rate, or threshold changes, we revise the affected tools and guides and note the review date.
Accuracy and corrections
We take accuracy seriously. If you believe a result is wrong, email support@opscalculators.com with the tool, inputs, and expected value. We investigate accuracy reports before anything else and correct confirmed errors promptly.
Independence
Our calculators and the formulas behind them are never altered to favor any advertiser or third party. Educational content and calculation logic are kept separate from any advertising shown on the Site.
Authorship and review
Tools and guides are built and reviewed by the OpsCalculators team, led by its founder and lead developer, who works in industrial operations. Learn more on our About page.
